Open Monument Day

This weekend it is time for Open Monument Day. This year it's a triple celebration because it's Utrecht's birthday and the opening party of the canal, which was postponed by corona, can finally take place. Let's Celebrate!

Utrecht900

It will come as no surprise that the main theme of Open Monument Day is the celebration of 900 years of city rights. The story of 900 years of the city is told through a number of impressive Utrecht monuments. From the moment the city rights were granted in 1122 until the reopening of the canal in 2020. In total there are 80 monuments to visit this weekend, so plenty to do!

Sustainability

The theme of this year's Open Monument Day is also sustainability. You might not expect it, but monuments are very sustainable. Sometimes they last for hundreds of years! Think for example of the library on the Neude or our hotels. You can view the most beautiful monuments by following a cycling or walking route.

Rondje Singel

The postponed opening celebration of 2020 will be combined this year with Open Monuments Day and Utrecht900. The Singel is inextricably linked with 900 years of city rights and the cherry on the cake of 15 years of construction in the Stationsgebied. The canal will be a stage and backdrop for all sorts of activities throughout the weekend. You can win a unique walk on the 'Bollendak' and on Sunday there will be an open air concert at TivoliVredenburg.
